Hello ,
The next step is for the VA to order a Comp & Pen Exam for your claim(s). A third-party contractor will reach out to you directly to schedule these appointments. You MUST attend Comp & Pen appointments to receive an accurate rating for your condition(s). If multiple claims have been filed for you, there will likely be multiple appointments to attend depending on the bodily regions of each condition.
The contractor will contact you with a prescheduled date and time. If you cannot attend the exam on the prescheduled date, you must reach out to the contractor directly to reschedule your appointment. You will only be allowed one opportunity reschedule an appointment. OSDRI cannot assist with arranging, rescheduling, or canceling any Comp & Pen Exams, this MUST be done by the veteran and the contractor directly due to HIPAA Regulations.
Generally, your exam will be scheduled by one of the following third-party contractors:
It could take a few months for these exams to be scheduled. Please let me know when your exams are scheduled so it can be noted in your file.
Please note, third-party vendors will schedule exams as close to your home as possible. Vendors are required to find a location within 50 miles of your home.
If you need assistance with transportation to and from your appointments, please tell the vendor you would like transportation provided, and they should assist you with arranging this. If the vendor does not assist you with transportation, please let me know immediately so OSDRI can provide transportation at no cost to you.
If your appointment requires a specialist provider, the vendor is required to find a location within 100 miles of your home. A specialist provider must be assigned for dental exams, eye exams, hearing exams, and mental health exams. Only mental health exams can be done via a telehealth call. Please talk to the vendor about scheduling the telehealth appointment at your convenience. You can request the specific sex of your medical provider for gynecological, breast, anal/rectal, and mental health examinations during the scheduling process.
I have attached your statements; you may bring these with you to your Comp & Pen Exam to help you stay focused and on track during your exam. It is not mandatory that you bring these statements with you, and you do not need to give it to the examiner because they should already have a copy from your VA file.
