At that time, Calvin was struggling with a mental condition and was rated at 30% by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Recognizing the immense potential for improvement, the OSDRI legal team reviewed Calvin's past decisions and took decisive action. OSDRI filed for an increased rating for Calvin's mental condition. After months of collaborative effort, in August 2022, Calvin received a decision granting a remarkable increase from 30% to 100% for his mental condition. However, a discrepancy arose as the VA awarded an effective date of April 2022, overlooking the earlier onset of Calvin's challenges. Undeterred by this setback, OSDRI promptly stepped in and requested a Higher-Level review to rectify the issue and secure an earlier effective date. In March 2023 a resounding decision was made Calvin was granted an effective date of July 2020 for his mental condition, resulting in a retroactive amount of over $57,000.00.
